Temporary Weight and Width Restrictions at West Mill Bridge, B4508

Temporary Traffic Regulation Order – S14 (1) & (2) Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984

Temporary Weight and Width Restrictions at West Mill Bridge, Watchfield – B4508 Watchfield-Highworth road

In the interests of public safety it will be necessary for Oxfordshire County Council to invoke a weight and width restriction.

On the B4508 Watchfield-Highworth road between its junctions with the A420 and the B4000 Highworth Road, the temporary order has the effect of:

  1. a) Limiting the weight of vehicles to 3 tonnes on West Mill Bridge, and
  2. b) Restricting the width of vehicles to 2 metres (6`6”) between the entrance to Round Robin Farm and the entrance to Westmill House.

The diversion for the larger vehicles is via the B4000, A361 (Highworth), A419 (Swindon) & the A420 and vice versa.

This order continues in force an emergency prohibition notice introduced because of a deteriorating bridge and the need to restrict its use for safety reasons. Remedial works are yet to be determined and a completion date is unknown.

A Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) is being made to implement these traffic measures.

The Temporary Traffic Regulation Order is dated as coming into force on 7th January 2015, which follows the current Emergency Notice for the same traffic measures.

Note: Because this Temporary Traffic Regulation Order continues the current Emergency Notice, for the same traffic measures, the 18 months maximum duration will count from the 17th December 2014, when the Emergency Notice started from (duration of 21 days). The maximum duration of a TTRO on a road is 18 months, or until completion of the works, whichever is the earlier.

Notice of intention to make the Order will be published in the local press.
