Many of you may be aware of the sad death of Huw Evans, a past headteacher of Watchfield School. Huw was the headteacher for 30 years and was awarded an OBE for services to education in 2007 on his retirement. His wife, Judith – also a teacher – has been a regular visitor to the school and has been doing supply teaching for Watchfield as recently as last academic year. Proud of his welsh roots, Huw also loved the good things in life which he considered to be his daughter Cerys, Rugby, fine wine, skiing and of course Judith. Huw – a young 67 – experienced a rapid decline in health in recent months after being diagnosed with cancer and he passed away last night quite suddenly. The funeral of Huw Evans will take place at St Andrew’s Church Wanborough on Thursday 23rd January at 2.00pm. Huw’s family have requested that only the family give flowers. Donations in lieu of flowers should be made to the Melanoma Society and/or Wanborough Surgery.
