Watchfield Flooding 2014

You may be aware that there were flooding issues across the recreation ground, play area and adjacent houses along the High Street over 4th, 5th Jan and 6th of January 2014. This was due to heavy rain and water egress from the development on Knapp’s field which overwhelmed the ditches and drainage system.

Villagers rallied to dig diversionary ditches, provide pumps and equipment, labour, torches and cups of coffee! Many thanks to everyone who lent a hand. After many discussions with the Vale and developers we have had assurances that no further water will be allowed to escape from the SUDS (or catchment) basin on the development and they will work to ensure the ditching system works correctly. Inspections of the drainage system will continue. The Parish Council is also in contact with the Vale planning department regarding apparent breaches of conditions.

The Vale delivered a limited supply of sandbags for the affected properties and these have been distributed by the Parish Council.

Please take photos of any relevant flooding issues around your house and email them to the chair of the Parish Council on francisandsue2004@yahoo.co.uk with a short description.

Thank you everyone for your community spirit!
